The court is pleased to announce the selection of Angela T. Thompson as the next Clerk of Court for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Hawaii. Ms. Thompson will begin her duties in November 2025.
Ms. Thompson, a graduate of Iolani School in Honolulu, graduated cum laude from Tufts University in 2004, majoring in Political Science, Asian Studies, and Japanese. As an undergraduate, she also attended the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies and served as an intern to Gordon Marsden, MP, in the House of Commons, British Parliament, London, United Kingdom. Ms. Thompson also attended the International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan, and later was employed as Coordinator of International Relations for the Kitaakita City Planning and Tourism Division, Akita Prefecture, Japan, from 2004 - 2006.
After obtaining her Juris Doctor degree in 2009 from the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law, Ms. Thompson served as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Susan Oki Mollway, U.S. District Judge Leslie E. Kobayashi, and U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry M. Kurren. She also was an associate attorney in the litigation department of Watanabe Ing LLP in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Since 2015, Ms. Thompson has served Chief U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert J. Faris as his Bankruptcy Appellate Law Clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She is also the current President of the Hawaii Bankruptcy Bar Association.
